Areas of advice: general commercial and corporate law, contract law, securities law and insolvency law. I served as Consultant to IMF (Indonesia), World Bank (Georgia), the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Netherlands’ Consumer Authority. Expert advisor of the European Commission regarding a new legal framework of crisis management for cross-border banking groups, the preparation of the legislative texts for the revision of the EU Insolvency Regulation and the proposals on a New approach to business failure and insolvency.
In addition I provide advice to lawyers both in the Netherlands and abroad acting as the ‘Counsel’s counsel’, advising in ‘complex’ cases, giving well-reasoned advice or rendering opinions or affidavits that may be presented in court. I also provide advice in relation to (cross-border) insolvency, recent examples include United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC), Yukos Oil (proceedings in New York), BenQ Mobile, Elektrim/Vivendi (proceedings in London), Icesave (Dutch branch of Landsbanki, Iceland), Belvedere / Sobieski (proceedings in Warsaw), Banco de la República de Colombia / Bank of New York Mellon (proceedings in New York), DSB bank, Micron Technology & Ors / Qimonda AG (proceedings in Alexandria, Va., USA), Bernard Madoff feeder funds (proceedings in Dublin) and other cross-border insolvency cases in courts in Vienna, London, Rhodes (Greece) and Los Angeles.
